5 Tips for Painting Your Walls After Removing Wallpaper

Do you want to paint your walls after you remove the wallpaper? If your room walls are patchy and have many cracks, you should probably clean and sand them and apply an extra layer of primer to ensure an even finish. Here are five tips for preparing your walls for a fresh coat of paint after removing wallpaper. Contact our commercial painting contractor for a free estimate.

1. WASH THE WALLS DOWN

It's time to wash down your walls now that your wallpaper has been removed. All of the cobwebs, dirt, and dust that have accumulated beneath should be washed away. You can also use a water sprayer to gently rinse the walls. In general, wiping it down with a damp cloth and some soap liquid is the best method.

2. DRY THE WALL

It is critical to dry the wall before proceeding with any other method. It is much easier to soak all of the excess moisture with a dry rag or allowing enough ventilation in the room can dry your walls quicker.

3. FILL IN ANY HOLES OR CRACKS

Wall cracks are an indication of structural damage and can be caused by a variety of reasons. Fill in any holes or cracks in your walls to give them a professional appearance. This will result in a smooth, even finish with no cracks. You can seek assistance from nearby painters for professional help.

4. SAND AND SEAL

To paint, the walls must have a nice, smooth, and even finish. Use a sand scraper to remove any imperfections to have a perfectly smooth finish. Paint can easily peel off the walls if they are not sealed with sandpaper.

5. ALL DONE! YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND PAINT!

When your walls are ready, apply primer and let it dry completely. You can now paint your walls in colors that complement the decor of your room. To achieve the desired appearance, coat them twice.
