4 Things To Consider When Buying A Sink

If you haven't already noticed, you will be confronted with a plethora of options once you start on a home improvement job. This is true when painting your interior, choosing new countertops, replacing your bathroom faucet, and a variety of other tasks. So it should come as no surprise that if you're planning a kitchen redesign that involves a new kitchen sink, you'll be faced with a plethora of options. When choosing a kitchen sink, there are a few things to consider.

Material of the sink

There are various materials to pick from when it comes to kitchen sinks, including porcelain, stainless steel, and cast iron, to mention a few. Consider how much use the sink will receive and how often you intend to clean it. Stains and scuff marks are common on porcelain sinks, but don't panic, they can be removed! It only requires a little elbow grease and a minimally abrasive cleanser, such as baking soda.

If you use your kitchen sink a lot, investing in a stainless steel sink can be a good idea. They have a very clean and modern appearance and will be much easier to clean.

Styles

They are different styles of sinks which catch your eye like round corners, farmhouse self rimming and much more. You'll want to spend some time looking through Google and Pinterest to see many kitchen sink styles that are available. Here are a few of the most well-known:

Farmhouse: This sink is stunning and makes a strong impression.

Self-rimming rims: They are long-lasting and cost-effective.

Undermount:  Because they offer a seamless aesthetic from countertop to sink, undermount sinks are becoming increasingly popular. They're also simple to keep clean.

Integrated Quartz sinks: If you choose quartz countertops, check to see if they come with built-in sinks. They have a one-of-a-kind, seamless appearance.

Size

When picking a sink size, you should consider the following questions. Keep in mind your budget—in general, the bigger the sink, the more expensive it is. You should also be honest with yourself about how much you use your sink. You can probably get away with a standard size (about 22 to 33 inch long) when you're not an avid cook, but if you have the countertop area to fit it, it's always better to be larger than smaller. Take note of the design's scale as well. If you have a small kitchen, a large farmhouse-style sink may be too much for the space.

Cabinets

Consider your cabinets to be the basis for your sink. Unless you're conducting a complete makeover, you'll need to choose your style carefully depending on what you already have. The most important factors are that your existing cabinets can fit the depth of your new sink and can hold the weight of the new sink. A porcelain farmhouse sink filled with water, for example, might easily weigh over 100 pounds, therefore the cabinetry must be able to support that weight.
